MANAKULA VINAYAGAR TEMPLE:
Manakula Vinayagar Temple is a Ganesha temple in the Union Territory of Puducherry, India. Dedicated to the god Ganesa, it is a popular pilgrimage site and tourist destination in Puducherry.[1] The temple is of considerable antiquity and predates French occupation of the territory. During the tenure of Dupleix, there were attempts to destroy the temple, but it was spared owing to strong protests from the Hindu population and the threat of British and Maratha invasion of the territory.
AUROBINDO ASHRAM
The Sri Aurobindo Ashram (French: Ashram de Sri Aurobindo) is a spiritual community (ashram) located in Pondicherry, in the Indian territory of Puducherry. The ashram grew out of a small community of disciples who had gathered around Sri Aurobindo after he retired from politics and settled in Pondicherry in 1910.
PONDICHERRY GOVT MUSEUM
The Pondicherry Museum (French: Musée de Pondichéry) is an art and history museum located in Pondicherry, India. It is especially noted for its collection of fine lost wax bronzes form the period of the Chola Empire.The Museum’s collection includes 81 Chola bronze sculptures, ranking as one of the largest collections of Chola bronzes.
AUROVILLE GOLDEN GLODE PARK
The Matrimandir (Sanskrit for Temple of the Mother or Temple de la Mère) is an edifice of spiritual significance for practitioners of integral yoga, in the centre of Auroville established by the Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It is called Soul of the City (French: L’âme de la ville) and is situated in a large open space called Peace.
CHUNNAMBAR BOAT HOUSE
Chunnambar Boat House is a major tourist spot in Puducherry and it is located in Nonankuppam which is at a distance of 7 km from Puducherry town.
ARIKAMEDU
Arikamedu is an archaeological site in Southern India, in Kakkayanthope, Ariyankuppam Commune, Puducherry. It is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) from the capital, Pondicherry of the Indian territory of Puducherry.Sir Mortimer Wheeler 1945, and Jean-Marie Casal conducted archaeological excavations there in 1947–1950. The site was identified as the port of Podouke, known as an “emporium” in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea and Ptolemy.
PARADISE BEACH
Paradise Beach is an all-season beach and it can be visited by tourists at any time of the year. However, if you’re looking to enjoy it to the fullest, you can plan your Puducherry tour during the winter months that start from October and continue until March. During this time, the overall climatic conditions are pleasant and cool, thus making it favorable for all age groups.
WAR MEMORIAL
The French War Memorial in Puducherry, India (French: Monument aux combattants des Indes francaises morts pour la patrie) is a war memorial dedicated to residents of French India who died for the country during the First World War. It is on Goubert Avenue in Puducherry, located opposite to the Gandhi statue.
SACRED HEART CHURCHES
Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus French: Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus de Pondichéry), situated on the south boulevard of Pondicherry in Puducherry, India, is an oriental specimen of Gothic Revival architecture. It contains rare stained glass panels depicting events from the life of Christ and saints of the Catholic Church.[1] In recent years it has become one of the famous pilgrimage spots for Christians.
BOTANICAL GARDEN
The Botanical Garden was established by the French in 1826, however mention of it has been made in 1740 itself. The main purpose of the Botanical Garden at that time was to study the performance of various cultivable plants and to identify suitable plants based on their adoptability to the agro-climatic conditions of Puducherry. In the year 1829 a vast collection of eight to nine hundred species were grown in an area of 7500 square meters was reported by the famous traveler Victor Jacquemont.
PONDY MARINA BEACH
Pondy Marina Beach is located at Dubrayanpet, 1.5km from the White town, Pondicherry. Unlike the rock beach, where the tourists can hardly venture into the seashores, here, as the name suggests, there is a reasonable length of sandy beach. Pondy Marina offers various food options, such as mangrove forest boating, sandy beaches, river mouth sighting, mangrove forest boating, etc.
GANDHI BEACH
The statue stands 4 m (13 feet) high is the 3rd biggest Mahatma Gandhi statue. It was inaugurated on January 26, 1965. The square in front of the statue referred to as Gandhi Thidal, plays host to various cultural and musical activities through the year.There is a tunnel below the Gandhi statue which is believed to be leading to Gingee Fort. There were some efforts to explore the tunnel. But, after a few people died of suffocation, the tunnel was closed.
PYRAMID NATARAJAR TEMPLE
Sri Karneshwar Nataraja Temple,Constructed in a pyramid shape, the temple is built to resemble the great pyramids of Egypt. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the shrine was originally built in the year 2000 by Dr. Karan Singh who was also the Chairman of Auroville Foundation.The temple, which was first built in 2000, was smaller than the present one. But it was destroyed in the tsunami of 2004. The current Pyramid Temple was built in 2006, with the help of Auroville Earth Institute. It’s bigger, and it’s in the same place as the earlier temple.
SHIVAN TEMPLE
Vedapurishvarar Tripurasundari Temple in Puducherry, is dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva and Hindu goddess Parvati. Constructed in the Dravidian style of architecture, the temple is destroyed by French troops and Indian subcontinental peoples in religious riots between Hindus and Christians in 1748 CE. Shiva is worshipped as Vedapurishvarar and Parvati is worshipped as Tripurasundari.
VILLIANUR LOURDE CHURCH
Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine (French: Sanctuaire Notre-Dame de Lourdes) is a Catholic Marian shrine and a parish church in Villianur, Puducherry, India. The shrine is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Pope Leo XIII issued a pontifical decree of coronation on 21 February 1886 towards the venerated Marian statue and declared the site an official Marian shrine. The former Archbishop of Pondicherry, François-Jean-Marie Laouënan executed the rite of coronation on 8 May 1886.
PROVIDENCE MALL
Providence Mall is a shopping mall in Pondicherry promoted by Prashanth Properties Private Limited. Its total area is 0.25 million square feet. The rather small mall contains shops, sale outlets, a food court and a cinema. It was inaugurated on 12 November 2017 by V. Narayanasamy, the Chief Minister of Puducherry.
